Times:
90 GLH

8 x 4 hours Friday evening (5.30pm to 9.30pm) Online

8 x 7 hours and 15 minutes Saturday (9.00am – 4.15pm) In Class

Venue: Online (Friday) and in person (Saturday) at Fife Voluntary Action, Glenrothes

Fees:
£800 (plus £182 non-refundable fee to awarding body qualification.

Course Summary

This level 2 certificate in counselling skills qualification is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge, skills and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles.
This qualification is for:
– Those starting the first level of training as a professional counsellor
– Those who want to learn counselling skills in other helping roles
– Those seeking development of their interpersonal skills. This qualification could lead to employment or increase employability for those whose role is to support others in e.g. health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work, other helping roles. It provides additional skills for those already in employment likely to lead to increased opportunities for promotion and advancement.

Topics Covered

By the end of the course, students shall have developed greater awareness, understanding and skills in allow them to:
– Use counselling skills ethically and safely
– Establish and sustain the boundaries of the helping role
– Work empathically as a helper
– Focus on the helpee’s needs and concerns
– Use self-awareness in helping work
– Use a range of counselling skills to facilitate the helping interaction
– Use feedback and reflection to enhance counselling skills

Entry Requirements

There are no minimum entry requirements for this course, students must be aged 18 or over.

Assessment Process

Students are assessed through written assignment tasks (e.g. weekly learning reviews) as well as tutor and peer observed active listening skills practice.

Further Training

On completion of this qualification, students are eligible to apply for  CPCAB level 3 Certificate in counselling studies, which further develops the understanding and use of counselling skills and is the next step for those wishing to continue their training, with a view to qualifying as a counsellor.

  • Emma Nichols

    Lead Tutor

    My name is Emma Nichols, I am a Person-Centred Counsellor. I am trained to work with adults and young people and spent 2 years previously working as a Schools Counsellor. I am also a teacher and have over 10 years’ experience teaching Psychology in schools and colleges, both in England and Scotland.

    I am currently undertaking Supervision training and additional training focusing on creativity in the counselling room and am looking forward to bringing these skills into the therapeutic space and into training. I have a passion for education and learning, and for equipping people with the skills they need to be able to become the best counsellors they can be.
